so i sink to win
lie down, feel the smoke that's kicking in.
i float, or i throw a fit
either way i'm in the deep end kicking.

sideways in my teeth is a letter from home
and i'm pacing around my room, pretending i know.
i'm sure if i had the guts i'd be painting the sidewalk
with you, reflections and hues
you'd be my chalk.

so i script you in
write you down on the pavement, circling.
you coat, or you fill it in
all the same, you look so human.

most things you said would go over my head
i was painfully still, you are mercilessly adamant
on something you said, how i made you regret
something perfect. i'm perfectly out of my depth.
worse things were said but i made no attempt
to even the lines i perpetuate, i'm petrified
to admit you were right.

so i sit, wading
know the stillness does not negate my drowning.
you make me choke so i throw you in.
